Adventures in Pradaland

I had a very interesting and humorous experience with a vintage purse this week. I'm always shopping around for great bags I can add to my store inventory or even just use myself or give to my daughter. So at one of my shopping trips I came across a patchwork purse that had a big “Prada” tag right on the front of it. So even though I know really only know something about vintage purses (say 1970s or older) of course I couldn't resist picking it up. I found it hard to believe that anyone would donate a Prada to a resale shop, so I didn't want to do anything with it without trying to get some other opinions on it. So I decided to join a designer purse forum, post some pictures, and see what the “experts” have to say. So basically they roundly excoriated me for picking up such a shoddy fake. Oh well, I prefer to stick with the older vintage anyway. I noticed later that the Prada label was even put on crooked....funny.

Spring Purples From My Backyard

Spring is finally here!
I love Spring! Especially where I live in Pennsylvania, it always seems like a miracle when we finally begin to see lovely green grass again. Today is a cool rainy day but the Spring flowers are in full bloom. I'm sharing some purple blooms from my backyard. The huge wisteria vine is covered in long flowers right now; it's an amazing sight. I've also included some Spring purples from my Vintage Store. Looking forward to some sunny weather tomorrow, maybe I can get out and weed all those flower beds!

John Romain Purse

I was so excited to recently come across this vintage 1960s John Romain purse! It's a cute small size woven straw bag with brown leather handles, trim, and interior. I love vintage bags because you can add your personal style, whatever you're wearing you can give it that little bit of a retro feel. This bag is such a classic, I think it would be great with anything. Tempted to keep it.....but I did get it listed anyway! You can find it at my etsy store http://www.etsy.com/listing/45342585/vintage-1960s-john-romain-petite-straw

The Love of Vintage

"People associate me with a time when movies were pleasant, when women wore pretty dresses in films, and you heard beautiful music"

Audrey Hepburn

I think that's what I love about vintage clothes. Each piece of clothing has a story, usually not known to us now. But it's fun to slip into an elegant dress once in a while, or find a matching hat for your special outfit. I have always kept some vintage pieces in my wardrobe. I have a double strand crystal necklace that I pull out for special occasions. I have worn my grandmother's rayon 1940s swing dress for New Year's and my mother's 1960's green velvet dress for Christmas.

I am most inspired by my daughter, who loves vintage clothes and hats and makes everything look fresh and elegant.

Thanks for looking at my site, at audreysclosetvintage.etsy.com. I also will be posting pictures of the vintage inspirations behind the clothes available in my etsy store.
